Dogs - cute, duddly, poop generating machines
According to the Ipswich City Council, one in four Ipswich residents has four legs.  It is now compulsory to register dogs and cats (including 'inside' cats).

Ipswich City Council has over 30, 000 registered dogs and is it estimated there are close to 30,000 cats in Ipswich (most are unregistered).

Cats typically poop once per day and dogs poop once or twice per day.  Do the math on 60,000 pets pooping per day and per week - that's a whole lot of poop!  Approximately 100 kg per dog per year.  How many tonnes of poop is that a year?

Ipswich City Council finds it acceptable for pet waste to be bagged and put in the regular household refuse for weekly collection.  Then the poop is confined to one place in landfill, not spread all over the city.  Biodegradable poop bags are available.

An alternative is to use a poop worm farm (with worms that particularly like poop).  The compost is not suitable for food crops though.  Take care that a recently dewormed pet's poop isn't added, or all the worms can be wiped out in one go.
